Anyone in to Massive Attack or any of their alumni such as Tricky, 3D, or guest vocalists Horace Andy, Elizabeth Fraser, etc? I have the Protection and Mezzanine albums, but I've heard some of the tracks from Blue Lines and don't really like them. I like Tricky and Horace Andy. 3D sounds hot too, and I enjoy the vocals from Elizabeth Fraser on Mezzanine. I don't like Nicolette much on the Protection album, but Tracy Thorn's great. Thoughts, people?
Hey, Yeah I totally love massive atack, like most of their stuff. I really do like tricky, but like all of their vocalists, not really sure which 1 I would prefere, but to me anything they've done is good in it's own way. I also have collected lots of B sides and remixes and also have their promo DVD. And, don't take this as a chritisisam, but it seems to me, or at least through talking to my friends from the US that have come to know Massive Attack through their later moody, layered work in 'Mezzanine' and 'Protection', and now '100th Window',
but their souls are firmly rooted in the Bristol, UK's 1980's sound system scene. Back then, the style was b-boy Adidas,Fila, and Kangol, and the discs
spun ranged from old school rap, electro funk, rare groove, to dancehall reggae-- the rarer the better. Talking of 100 th window, I love that album too, it's interesting. It sounds like "mezzanine" but even
more darker and less "new wavy" and more into jamaïcan dub kind of vibe with vocals by horace andy, sinead o'connor, amongst others!
I love the blue lines album and like IK, the 100th window suits them really well and the dark ambient nature of that album certainly appeals to me.
Horis Andy is a unique and fantastic vocalist and it's hard to believe he's been active in music since the mid 70's. if you get the chance, check out some of his solo work!!
